Comfort those that Mourn.
Where
possible I like my paintings to have a happy ending. “Comfort
those that Mourn” is the sequel to a sister painting
entitled, “Jug not, that ye be not Jugged” which, by itself,
did not have a happy ending. The jugs that went off with
their spouts in the air got convicted of their nasty,
judgmental attitudes, repented and came back to their former
comrade. Now they gather to offer comfort, care and support.
The “blanket”, a crocheted milk jug cover with the little
glass beads round its edge, is one my mother used when I was
a small boy.
“Comfort those that mourn” is not a quote from the
Beatitudes. The nearest I could find is, “Comfort them which
are in any trouble” 2 Corinthians 1 : 4.
