Remember me.
Shortly after a visit to Israel, I attended a communion
service in a large mission home in Holland. On the wall hung
a wreath made from a crown of thorns bush, which grows in
Israel. I later draped the wreath over the emblems. The
symbolism took on a new power and the bread and wine, with
which we are so familiar, a new sense of cost. Jesus’ words
in Luke 22 verses 14 – 20 “Do this in remembrance of Me”, as
He gave thanks and shared out the bread and the wine, must
have been bewildering to His disciples.
Understanding grew later. For us too, if our hearts are
open, understanding is a progressive thing.
